Day 52

We made it!!!! Today we rode to the Golden Gate Bridge and dipped out bikes in the Pacific Ocean. It was about 70 miles from Davis to San Francisco. We can't believe we made it. We're so excited!

Day 51

In Old Sacramento



We spent a lot of the day on the American River Bike Path, which is a really great bike path that takes you all the way into West Sacramento. Then we finished the day in Davis. We can't believe we get to San Francisco tomorrow!

Day 50

Our last major climb ever was today. We crossed into California and then went over the Sierra Nevadas through Carson Pass. We got up really early so were at the top by 10:30, but then of course the top wasn't the end of climbing and after going down to Kirkwood we had another little summit to climb to, but after that we were done and very happy. We went down Mormon Immigrant Trail, which was a really pretty descent and then ended the day after 82 miles.

Day 49

Rode to Genoa today, 76 miles from Fallon, passing through Carson City. It was really windy but other than that it was a nice ride. Genoa is a really nice town. We were hanging outside the town market and this really great guy named Buz invited us to stay in his home right around the corner. Thanks Buz!

Day 48

We woke up today and wanted to get as far away from Austin as we good because of our scary experience so we rode 113.55 miles to Fallon. Our longest day by far and one of the hardest. We went 65 miles to Middlegate and after finding out it had a population of 17 and that there was a nice place to stay in Fallon, we decided to keep going. We went over the last four summits today, Mt Airy, New Pass, Drumm and I forget the last one. After we went over the last two in the afternoon we thought it would be an easy flat ride to Fallon but we had the worst headwinds ever and it made the last 20 miles feel like they were going to go on forever. Sadly the place my mom stopped at for water 28 years ago in Salt Wells had burned down so when we got to the gas station I have never wanted water so badly in my whole life. We finally made it to Fallon and are staying with this really nice couple, Lori and Jean, from warmshowers. It was a great ending to the day.

Day 47

Rode over Bob Scott and Austin Summits into Austin today. Shawn, a nice guy we met on top of Bob Scott Summit, bought us lunch at a cafe in town. Camped out in the town park and got woken up in the middle of the night by a kid shaking our tent and screaming as a prank. It really scared us a lot and we were so terrified that we barely slept through the rest of the night.

Day 46

In Eureka using the library. Rode 78 miles today by 12:30 and it's sooo nice to have the whole afternoon to relax. We climbed 4 more mountains today: Robinson, Little Antelope, Pancake and Pinto. We heard about a park in town that lets bikers camp which is nice. According to our plan we have one more week until we reach San Francisco! Tomorrow we'll ride to Austin.
